WhatsApp can rollout the security feature for chat backup

Users can soon get the security feature for chat backup on WhatsApp. After the rollout of this feature, users will be able to secure chat backup via password and encryption. This information has been shared by WABetaInfo, a website that keeps an eye on new features and updates coming on WhatsApp. According to a WABetaInfo report, Facebook-owned instant messaging app has been working on this security update for the past one year. However, WABetaInfo has shared information about this feature by sharing some screenshots.

One of the screenshots WABetaInfo has shared reads, 'To prevent unauthorized access to your iCloud drive backup you can set a password that will be used to encrypt the backup.' It is written that this password will be required to restore the backup. Along with this, the phone number will have to be provided to enable the security feature in the backup. Here the user has also been warned that if someone forgets the password, the password cannot be retrieved.

WhatsApp's chat end to end is encrypted. However, chat stored on Google Drive and iCloud does not remain encrypted. In such a situation, users can secure their chat backup by setting the password in chat backup. However, once you forget the password, WhatsApp will not be able to help the user recover the password.
